RSS Feeds Are Working Again

I noticed our RSS feeds stopped working recently. These should now be working again; apologies for the downtime. If you’re not sure what RSS is, read on and be prepared to have your life changed!

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication – it’s the same thing. Some websites like ours announce support for it with a icon, but it’s generally available on most blogs.

It’s a simple way to subscribe to all of your favourite blogs in one place, rather than having to visit each site separately.

A collection of vegan blog posts in Feedly
A collection of vegan blog posts in Feedly

For example, I subscribe to some vegan food bloggers, apps we use for Silvobeat so I can stay on top of updates, outdoor companies like Patagonia to see what they’re doing on the environmental front, magazines like Dumbo Feather and Lagom for their inspiring stories, and dozens more.

The best bit is that you can quickly skim through all these posts, read or save for later the ones that tickle your fancy, and skip over the ones that don’t. There’s no ads, and no goat videos to distract you!

Unless you subscribe to a blog about goat videos, of course.

Are You Interested in Getting Started?

I use Feedly to manage the subscriptions and read them on my desktop PC. When I’m on my iPhone or iPad, I use Unread to read updates in a beautiful layout. The Feedly app is available everywhere, and it’s reading experience is very good – it’s just not quite as good as Unread!

Silvobeat has a couple of main feeds you can subscribe to:

If there’s a specific type of recipe you’d like to keep track of (for example, large meals, or gluten-free meals), you can subscribe by going to a recipe with that category, selecting the category from the bottom of the recipe, then adding that link to Feedly. Feedly will work out what you’re trying to subscribe to.

Advanced: OPML

If you’d like to take a look at every feed on Silvobeat in a list, then OPML is your best bet. It’s like a directory or outline of every RSS feed we offer. You can download the Silvobeat OPML file and import it directly into Feedly, which will give you a breakdown of every tag and category used in blog posts and recipes. Keep the ones that interest you, and delete the rest!

Meet Silvobeat at the Spring Vegan Festival

Animal Liberation Victoria is hosting their second Spring Vegan Festival this Sunday, 16 September at St Kilda Town Hall. I’m honoured to have been asked to co-run a vegan cooking workshop along with the talented ladies from Wombat Cafe & Store, and The Road Not Taken.

Come along and check out some of the awesome stalls from the likes of Rawbeet, Desert Island Confectionary, Sandwitch, Vegan Perfection (which will hopefully be a great opportunity to stock up on Vego bars!), and Edgar’s Mission.

Pop by the workshop at 12:30 to see my cooking demo and try some of my food – and be sure to say hi! I’d love to meet you!

As the silly season draws to a close, I thought it’d be fun to post a recipe roundup of our favourites for the holidays. It’s been exciting to share these recipes with you; I’ve got plenty more in store for 2018!

A perfect start to the festive season, how could we say no to a fresh and delicious salad that doubles as a wreath? Although, we do recommend that you don’t hang this on your door! 🎄

My homemade chocolate truffles have been a hit with family and friends for a few years now. They’re quick and easy to make, and you can create a range of different flavours by rolling them in your favourite coatings. I love truffles with a mixture of coconut and dried culinary lavender. 💜

Welcome to Silvobeat my Wonderful Friends

Hey gang,

First off, thank you for taking the time to follow Silvobeat; I’m so grateful for your kind words of encouragement.

It’s time for an intro to the face behind the food (or in this case behind the very delectable vegan ice-cream sandwich I devoured at the Melbourne vegan market courtesy of Girls & Boys Fitzroy ?!).

I’m Silvia, and my friends call me Silvo. I’m a driver trainer by day, but in my spare time, I’m passionate about showing people how satisfying and delicious a plant-based diet can be.

Over the last few years, I’ve been on a journey to give up meat, and now all animal products from my diet. Together with my husband Stuart, we’ve been training ourselves how to eat and sustain a nourishing and healthy vegan lifestyle.

It’s been so exciting to discover the variety of plant-based food I’ve been able to find and create. Meal preparation has turned into full-blown experimentation! I want to share the thrill of tasting something so amazing with others so you too can be inspired to eat more plants―wherever you are on your journey.

If you’re already vegan, I hope you’ll find new and exciting ways to eat your favourite plants with my simple and creative recipes.

Stu (the taste-tester and tech-wizard behind Silvobeat―and now copy editor ?) are working hard to create a beautiful collection of recipes for you to try at home, which we’re currently launching.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear where you are on your journey!

Please feel free to reach out to us at any time. You can reach us on Messenger, Instagram, or Pinterest @silvobeat, or email us at [email protected].
